Making amblyopia treatment measurable at home

Wondersee partnered with Fjaryl to design a connected patching system for children with amblyopia (lazy eye). It combines a small time logger, a disposable patch, and a parent app that tracks patching time automatically.

Patching works best when it is done as prescribed. Yet clinicians don’t truly know how much patching happens at home. The system gives parents and clinicians an accurate picture with no manual logging, turning the data into encouragement that keeps families going, and enabling pediatric opthamologists to alter treatment as needed.

The system is being prepared for a clinical study in early 2027. The study aims to measure patching dose objectively in children with amblyopia.

What we did:

  • Design research and co-creation at US eye clinics

  • Product definition and roadmap

  • Phased, outcome based release plan

  • Logger and patch concept and prototyping

  • Parent app UX/UI and design system

  • Sensor logic for real-world wear

  • Technical development support

The Logger clips semi-permanently onto the child's glasses. When the disposable patch is on, the Logger detects its embedded tag and records the time. Parents have nothing extra to manage each day.

The parent app coaches families rather than only showing hours logged. It shows the patterns behind good patching days and treats missed days as normal. It is simple by default, with more detail for parents who want it. A countdown timer and celebrations keep children engaged.

We found the right product first. Research and co-creation shaped a focused definition, and a staged roadmap leads from proof of concept to commercial release.

Working with Wondersee's electronics partner, we helped validate the right technology and how it needs to work, defining how the Logger reads real-world wear.

Wondersee is now preparing for clinical studies beginning 2027.
